Looking to purchase a crossbow to be used by both myself and my wife for hunting in WV. Have created a 1.5 acre food plot w/clover & alfalfa, black berries, and apple trees off our back deck in the mountains. Don't expect to have shots over 40 yards. Dialed down options to the Venom X or Ravin R10. Leaning towards the Venom X based on the following:
-If wife is decocking and loses grip she won't hurt herself
-Cocking system is quiet on the VenomX
-Can't imagine a significant difference in 10FPS at sub 40 yards
-All my friends swear by the R10 3 of 4 have it. The 4th bought a 500 hundred and is planning to go back to an R10 or R10x

Anyway interested in your feedback.

Venom X ... by ten lengths and pulling away! :)

A couple of things on the Ravin side. The 5X has been discontinued so I don’t know how many are available. It’s an r26 front end on a longer stock. The 10X is a longer bow if that matters. I looked at a Venom X last week and that bow just looks like it’s going to be a problem free work horse bow. It would be the less aggressive of the three. For me it would be the Venom X. You mention letting the bow down…that’s 100% TP. For my wife, I’d feel better if she was deccocking the VenomX.

I bought two Venom X bows. Bought first one for the wife, she loved it. I liked it so much bought another one for myself. It's lightweight, very accurate and think it's gonna be extremely reliable.
See my review in the Ten Point part of this forum.
I did change the scope went with the Huskemaw I wanted the single reticle .
You won't be disappointed.
Check with Wyvern Creations great prices, free arrows and broadheads. No sales tax and free shipping.

Nothing wrong with the Raven R10 my son in law has the R10. Nice bow very accurate. I believe its about $300 more than the Venom X. I got my Venom X bows with the Huskemaw scope upgrade for $1250. The Raven does click when cranking vs silent on Venom X. Think I read somewhere the Raven was bit harder to crank. My wife can crank the Venom X without a problem. Think the Raven Is about the same weight. I think the Venom X may end up easier on strings and servings.

Well I have a R26X and a R10X. I just sold a Turbo that I had thought of using as a backup. But that R10X is a real shooter and very fast. The card on the bow said 430 FPS and it is truly that fast with 400 gr arrow. If you make up some custom arrows in say 425 to 450 gr I think you would be very happy with its abilities. Oh yeah I highly recommend changing out the optic and adding some Big Bird accessories

I had a Ravin 5X for a short while, also a 10X and a 10....they all went down the road (go figure 🤪😂) I did not like the new blockier-style grip (of the 5-10X) and honestly didn't care for their silent cocking ...no audible "click" to verify if the bow was fully cocked...you had to "feel" the clutch starting to slip. I did like the way the handle attached to the cocking mechanism vs what 10 Point does.
I held a 10 Point Venom X at the Eastern Outdoors show. It felt very good in hand and shouldered very well just like the Turbo S1 but with less weight/front end heaviness. My buddy shot it and it seemed quite tame at the shot/fairly quiet.
I'd go with the Venom X...I'm still fighting the temptation to buy one 🙄

I think ... a critical component of all this isn't getting enough attention. Something that shouldn't be overlooked during the fan loyalty debates is the critical difference of the "letting down" or "decocking" of the two different systems. It's my opinion that not only is Ten Point the better company and Ten Point Venom X the better bow but there's no disputing that the decocking system on the Ten Point Venom-X is world class and the safest on the market. It's much, much safer than my Ravin crossbow's system. Letting down my Ravin is a matter of holding onto the crank handle for dear life. It can surprise you with the power generated on the handle from unleashing those limbs when you first disengage the thumb release letdown button. And it can surprise you with each turn of the crank handle. I'm as tough and mechanically aware as the next guy and never worried about decocking my Ravin but I had one turn once time that almost slipped out of my hand. I was shocked, thinking it couldn't never happen as long as you were vigilant and paying attention. I certainly wouldn't want my wife risking a busted up smashed hand trying to let a Ravin down. My ex-wife maybe, but not one who I actually loved. :p ;)

Good point! Safe cocking and decocking is one of the main reasons I bought the Venom X for the wife and my self. I have a Wicked Ridge Invader X4 that she has used. Its a nice bow, but you have to be careful when cranking. I accidentally let the handle go one morning, busted up a knuckle pretty good. The Accuslide system on the Venom X works very well, also very safe when cocking and decocking. I feel much better having my wife use this bow vs the WR bow.

Probably decocked my Ravins hundreds of times over last 5 seasons....never had a problem once. I think if you look into the folks who have had a problem decocking you'll find they were not paying attention while doing it and let go of crank. If while letting down you felt crank loose in your hand etc you just let go of button and everything stops. But I like the Ten Point as well but the back winding hocky pokey can be a pain🤷‍♂️

You're right ... but you're also a mechanically inclined and probably pretty athletic guy who's used to being around tools and equipment. No woman I ever met is in that category. I probably letdown my Ravin 50 times? Ten or twelve revolutions per letdown? That's 500-600 chances for the crank to slip out of my hand. It almost did once. And the "just let go of the release button?" Trust me, the first thing you do when you start to lose your grip on something that can hurt you is lockup every muscle in your body like a 230lb female Russian proctologist is coming at your rectum with a turkey baster and a smile on her face. :p ;) The power of those limbs would rotate that crank 5 times in the nanosecond that it slipped out of your grip. I don't think a guy could let go of the release button before he was hand smashed on a bet if he was trying to do it on purpose, much less unexpectedly and by surprise.😂

I cranked my Invader a lot of times. Just one slip up is all it took to bust my knuckle. You know what they say, Sh... Happens. That was 4 yrs ago, that knuckle still deals me fits at times. I had gloves on at the time that probably contributed to the slip up. You are right, just need to be deligent and you shouldnt have a problem.
Actually back winding a couple turns doesn't bother me on the Accuslide. Its a really smooth system.

Actually ... that's a viable solution to making the Ravin safe for letting down. Carry a discharge target and just shoot the thing so the Sheila doesn't have to be exposed to the risk at all. I still think the Venom-X is the way to fly, but if for some reason OP fell in love with or got some super deal on an R10 it's a way to make it work.
