Help, Tenpoint 505 dry fired, stuck on dry fire inhibitor?

A couple of things that I don't like about TenPoint: the DFI is not great, and the "Limited Lifetime Warranty" could sure be better. Under the current warranty, if your bow has to be fixed, you either pay for shipping with insurance and send it to TenPoint, or pay an Authorized TenPoint Dealer for labor on the repair. I knew these things going into it, but it didn't stop me from getting a Nitro 505. Wasn't something that I wanted, it's something that I "had to have"! I really don't think that the 2 stage trigger will bother me. Still haven't shot the bow, my target should be here tomorrow, and waiting on arrows.

Hate to say it but I frickin' dry fired may 505 into the DFI. Was short on time and forgot to put a bolt in. I just cocked my bow back and then it was good to go. I took it in to the shop for a look see. They called Ten point and after discussing with Ten Point and inspection they returned the bow to me. I still need to go out and continue sighting it in.

I wish they had a better system for anti dry fire. I was sloppy. That thing sounded like a .22LR going off when I dry fired it. The curse words were louder after I realized what I did.

Hope they find what went wrong with yours.

Accidents happen, there have been times that I forgot to load an arrow but those times were with my Scorpyd bows. And they have an ADF that works. I have not made that mistake with my RS470 but worry that I will. I have been on the Tenpoint DFI soapbox for a long time. To say "it is not great" is an understatement. You can pull the trigger all day long on a Scorpyd and it will not dry fire. Try that with a Tenpoint and you have to send it in for repairs. If Scorpyd can do that, so can Tenpoint. I would pay even more money to have true ADF.

This is a reason I won’t purchase a TP. Not having an actual Anti Dry Fire on a $3000.00 crossbow that could ruin an expensive hunt pretty much makes the Nitro 505 a no.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. As for me I am loving the Acuslide and everything about it. These are expensive bows and I will not rush when getting it ready to shoot. Between farm deer and myself it’s got close to 16-1700 shots on it without a dry fire. Not saying by any means it won’t happen but I like my tenpoint bow and the adf/dfi doesn’t bother me at all.

Not sure how you can blame Ten Point for someone dry firing their bow. Sounds like pure accident. S...t happens. I accidentally left my accudraw claw attached to the string and shot it missed nice buck arrow kinda went out about 20 yds and dropped. Dumb on my part. I try to remember a check list when shooting. The first Invader X4 I bought I didn't read directions moved the safety to safe position. Tried to cocking locked up. Read on line to crank back bit more to relieve tension went to far the claw snapped. Orsehelns was good enough to replace it. All my fault. As I said s..t happens. Learned a lesson read directions.
Ten Point is a good company with good products and really good customer service. All manufacturers have some issues its how they handle those issues is what matters.

No hurry. It was my fault, and no fault of TenPoints. However, I will need to figure out a way to prevent myself making the mistake again. I'm hoping I can just put a sticker someplace on it to remind me to load an arrow.

I agree! Sh-- happens!

It's no different than calling a Tom into range, and your shotgun goes click when you pull the trigger. You kick yourself at that moment, & life moves on!

After almost 50 years of hunting, I am still learning. For those who know it all already, life must be really boring! :)

Although I don't own one, I admire the TP ACUslide system. It appears to be a very easy & safe method of cocking & de-cocking a crossbow. I appreciate ACUslide system being offered on not only the Nitro 505 model, but several other more affordable models like the new Turbo S1.

I'm even impressed the TP ACUdraw 50 system on the Titan De-Cock crossbow this year. For those who like the Mission rope de-cocking feature, it mimics that quite well.

I see no need to bash TP over this incident.

One could be critical of Excalibur crossbows not going to safe automatically (need to manually position the safety on once cocked). My response would be - everyone should double check their safety position. Likewise, everyone should should check if a gun is load or unloaded every time it is picked up. Unloaded guns (mistaken view) have accidentally killed how many? One is to many!

If I forget to load a bolt on my crossbow some day, I can already tell you it's probably not the stupidest thing I have ever done in life. If it were, I would feel quite blessed!

That's what my thoughts were exactly. Sometimes it will bend with just one dryfire and sometimes it will be OK through 3 dryfires but sooner or later, it will bend. A good, TenPoint approved, local pro shop should be able to do the repair. I know, that in itself may be hard to find in some areas. Good luck.

They go to an ADF vs their current Inhibitor design and continue to make improvements on their trigger I could be back in line in 2023 for my first TP in 7 years.

DFI is not an ADF by any measure. I hope Ten Point is listening. I think they will be next level if the use ADF technology. Is ADF a proprietary assembly like Trigger Tech?

I personally like the TenPoint DFI system over other ADF systems. When carrying the crossbow without an arrow loaded, I have complete confidence that the string cannot move forward, no matter what happens. Unlike other systems that have a ADF within the trigger latch that you just have to trust even though you can't see it or verify that it is working.
