I assume the limbs on the rev x are the high output HO limbs. Are the limbs on the rev x the same as on a new 340? If not, can you get HO limbs for a 340? Wondering if it’s possible to put the strongest limbs on a slower crossbow.

Yes, HO limbs on the RevX.

You can buy HO limbs from Excal for $150 a set.

The 340 comes with standard micro limbs.

The HO limbs are both thicker and narrower where they exit the riser, compared to standard micro limbs. So you need to know your way around limb fitment in risers. Guys have done it though.

Sounds like it can’t be done without some modification ? Are they the same length tip to tip, and will the string sit the same on the riser? I don’t own an Excalibur but this HO limb would be something of a must have. Thanks

Wouldn't even call it modification. One I did just required some plastic shimming because the narrowness of the HO limbs in the particular riser I used. The front face of the limbs were also pretty tight on that one, though seems to be working fine. I figure I could make some longer ferrules if it becomes an issue. The other one I did had pretty tight limb pockets and didn't require any shimming on the sides.

That's correct, a couple guys have put them in Mag 340 risers and not had issue. Excal does not offer any models with that riser and limb combo, and then they built the new Extreme riser with the same front mounting method and made the riser a lot beefier and put HO limbs in them. So that should tell you which riser geometry is built to handle the HO limbs. They also no longer use ferrules and a limb strap on that riser design.

I absolutely would not feel safe putting HO limbs on a 340 Mag! I know there has been risers of other manufacturers split and I bet it was exciting! I would not want to be within 50 feet of one that let loose.

Have a few hundred shots with the HO limbs. They are the real deal!

What did you do to make the HO limbs fit? What crossbow model is it that you replaced the limbs with so limbs? I appreciate the replies but I was looking for specific details saying what was done. Using a current model 340, with HO limbs, will the speed remain 340? My thoughts regarding the HO limbs is to insure longer limb life, not looking to boost speed. Thanks

I have owned several Mag 340 and had no problems with the standard limbs mynarrow build is in the 415 grain area with much success. In my opinion modifications with the HO limbs will void warranty just something to think about.
Help me out. What is your narrow build?

I am kind of curious as to why you want to replace the standard 340 limbs? With Excalibur's Incredible warranty, they'll replace them for free if you have any issues. If you are willing to spend extra money, just buy a spare set of standard 340 limbs. You can swap them out inside of an hour yourself very easily, and probably quicker than that. Also, if you're willing to spend more money to put HO limbs on a 340 and don't care about speed just move up to a 360 model for a few dollars more. They come with HO limbs. I'm pretty sure this is going to be the common consensus. I have a Mag 340 and prefer it over my micro 380. In fact on this forum I have yet to read comments from anybody that doesn't like their Mag 340. It's really inexpensive, easy to work on, shoots great, is incredibly accurate, and it has way more than enough power to shoot anything in North America.

Thanks ! I guess that makes much more sense , simply buying a 360 for the HOs, than messing about with warranty voiding and possibly dangerous modifications. The difference in 20 fps can’t be that big a deal, yet you get the benefit of stronger limbs. I’d guess that the 360 comes with a beefier riser then ? I wish I’d have thought about these questions when I stopped at Danny Millers in Sardis OH a few years ago. I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

edit add : so now I’m waiting on a 360 or340 with the HO limbs, and the built in crank of the rev x.

25 fps bump with the HO limbs vs standard micro limbs, all else equal.

And I've never put HO limbs in a Mag riser and never plan to. Reason being there are stronger riser geometries out there that I have been able to get ahold of.

Anyone that is curious can do some Google image searching and you'll see the Micro 380, Micro Extreme, and Wolverine (all HO limbs) use the same micro Gen 2 riser geometry as the 308 Short, Micro 315, 335 (Gen 2), and 355 (all standard micro limbs). So any bow I've decided to put HO limbs in has at least matched something Excal has already offered in terms of strength, and I've never tried to exceed what they've already proven.

And like Janesy mentioned, the TD risers may be the strongest, considering that is what they first offered the 400 micro's with. Though IMO the new Extreme riser is the best one they've made, even though I don't have any yet. Front mounting, designed to handle the highest loads, and no limb straps/ferrules.

Thanks for the detailed explanation!
