After putting over 300 shots on my Rev-x. Also having recently , leaving it cocked for 12 hours twice, and accidentally overnight . I'm confident in it. Haven't had a single issue with the crank mechanism, or crank handle. I ordered a spare crank handle from Dave at wyverns, there were two separate orders and somehow I got an extra crank handle in each one. Now I have three and I'll probably never need more than the original one.

 

If Burkey could not whip me up a a slim reaper decock fast . Venom x maybe turbo x not sure about the extra 3/4” length .

 

A got to have cause season is opening & sumpin I trust to get me through the year n 20 more behind it. Excaliber Vortex would be my Prom Queen !

 

Nothin that is nock specific, KI, CP, or has the bow string that comes from the inside of the cams.

If not that, then a Matrix 355 full camo version. I like my Micro, but the Matrix is better for a number of reasons. Not to mention that if you can find one now it'll likely be cheaper than a new Micro.

If I was feeling flush on money Venom X, if I wasnt one of the flavors of Barnett XP. I'd be interested in the logix but I would have to hold it first. I didn't like the feel of the vital X430 at all. Likely i would decide the logix was too heavy and front heavy. I like the feel of the Venom more than the XP but they are both very acceptable.

I assumed no Swat X1 available for this scenario. Im very happy with my Swat.

 

I'd have to build a REV "Z" but it wouldn't be ready for another 3 years.

 

The three I have now.....Sub 1, KI X1, and the TenPoint Venom X. All with the Burris Oracle X. It "only" took me about a dozen crossbow buy and then sell to arrive at these three.

Hadn’t thought about a scenario where not only not having a crossbow but also without a press in the house… 🤔

The Mag Max would likely stay in the backup role but would likely switch from the Venom X/Turbo X choice. Something more self sufficient would be in order - Hybrid X or Mission Sub-1/Sub-1 XR would fit the bill… Probably the Sub-1 XR, had a Rev X and the riser didn’t fit me well but I’d go actually handle a Hybrid X to make sure one way or the other…

 

I just don't see no press as a limiting factor. The Jack Pine press cost $20 to build and has worked fine on the 3 bows I've used it on.

 

Excalibur, Hybrid X as my primary and a 340 for a backup nice light weight / long walk in option.

All of the crossbows I've ever had have all performed to my satisfaction. But of the many I've owned over the years, if I were to start all over, for reliability, maintenance, string life, etc., I'd probably have to go with my TenPoint Venom X or my old Darton Viper SS Extreme (still kickin myself for ever getting rid of that one!)...

Bow Season ONLY, actually any season these days, it's some type of Excalibur. I just trust them. I can work on them. They have ALWAYS been good to me, so why change.
In other words, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Tomorrow, (the 27th of September), is opening morning here. Supposed to be upper 50's. Clear skies. Light northeasterly wind, that means it will be blowing in my face, as I'm perched up in my tree stand. And I'll be looking for Bambi.
Oh yeah, with my old Micro Suppressor 355.

I have a Stainless Ruger .300 WSM with a Silver Leupold Vari-X III that I haven’t shot in over 20 years now… Come to think of it may sell that thing and get another crossbow… 🤔

And those aren’t bad habits - I’d consider those good habits! 👍

 

i would look for a good used Excalibur Matrix 380 with a crank.

 

My Excaliburs have treated me right. If buying new I would probably opt for a Mag Max or another Mag340 (I have two 340's and intend to keep them)

 

Ummm all y'all not string making people are going to be in a serious world of hurt with your choices. I was looking at the Thread makers list of allowed ! Now since y'all have bent the text to include 2 or more. I will stay with my 1st choice, but allowing that I will include my R29X. For myself I no gotstid worry about making strings & cables as I can do that for myself
