Hello all,

I was hoping an owner of a Nitro 505 could shed some light on the accuracy on their bow. I’ve tried YouTube videos but I haven’t seen much above 50 yards. I’d love to know what kind of groupings y’all are getting in your longer range shots. I hunt in open fields so I’m looking for a bow that I can confidently hit small groups at longer than average hunting ranges (given perfect hunting conditions). Thanks in advance!

Ron,
It's not just in ND, we woke up to snow capped mountains in the Virginia foothills this morning. It's been a crazy Spring so far but at least, we're not wading through it like folks up your way.

BTW, with WWB making great arrows for the TP505, I would have little concern with accuracy. However, the lack of a good ADF on the 505 would be my greatest concern. IMO, it's Not Cool to have to send your crossbow back to the factory if you accidentally forget to load an arrow before squeezing the trigger.
Nonetheless, on the flip side of that opinion, if you forget it one time, chances are you'll be less inclined to every forget it again.

I am a little disappointed to hear that they haven’t put a true ADF on it, however the only time I’ve dry fired a bow was a really cheap crossbow I got years ago when it my ADF failed where a DFI would have prevented the heavy damage to the bow. I’m not too concerned with the DFI, just have to be more careful with it. If they weren’t going to add a true ADF I’d hope they would at least beef up their DFI system so it wouldn’t bend the pin.

The heavier the arrow out of the same crossbow definitely is slower but has picked up a slight amount of energy over the lighter arrow. When each arrow is sighted in at 20 yards, then the difference in the trajectories is much less that might be expected. The difference between a 450, 500 and 550 g arrow, especially at 400’/sec+ , is amazingly small out to 80 yards

The heavier the arrow or bullet, the greater the sectional density, resulting in less velocity decay. So, heavy arrows loose speed slower than lighter arrows for 2 reasons: greater density and since its slower, the inflight drag is less.

The arc difference is not very much between 50 or 100 g differences at over 400’/sec.

I ordered my 505, it should be here soon with my new target coming in Thursday. I’m going to be picking up a new tripod to go with it, I’m looking at the BOG adrenaline for my spot and stalk hunts. I’m gonna trying the Evo-X arrows with the 150 gr. broadheads and see how they group when I get my target and brodheads. I’m hoping for good groups at 80 yards. Out of curiosity, how much do custom bolts typically run?

I would like to weigh in here. I do not own a 505 . I own a Siege with the stronger limbs . I have owned 3 Ravins, 2 Excaliber and some others ( even a Horton yea I am old) The Ravins seem lighter and more modern. Both TP and Ravin are really nice crossbows. I hope to have a Nirto 505 next year if the funds are there. Tenpoint makes a very solid crossbow and I have not shot one that I did not think was accurate enough for me to deer hunt out to 40 yards.
TP seem heavier duty than Ravin and built more solidly. Not a knock on Ravin because i think they are purposely built to be light and still function very well. I do not think you can go wrong with either company
