Revised thoughts on M405

After the M405 was introduced, a # of people began to think that >400’/sec rating out of a Matrix was a bridge too far. I had 2 and both had limb cracks at the riser. I think this was more of a design problem of riser pockets/limb design.

FWIW, my BD400 was at least 20’/sec slower than the M405, which , also, didn’t make 405 with 350gs. And , this was with the ultra light factory, non-Flemish string. The “improved” limbs added 10-15’/sec to my BD’s speed

However, now with the “improved” limbs plus a properly shaped limb pocket, I think that the M405 would actually get 405/350 or even a little more. If so, I think the M405 would be Excalibur’s fastest, reliable crossbow. I’m somewhat wishing I still had one of my 2 405s to do this with.

Just some thoughts.

Would be hard to argue against that. I just recently sold my BD400, but it had the improved limbs and a different riser (never bothered to examine what was different about it) but the prior owner that did that said the combo got him 417 fps with a 350gr setup. But I chrono'd it with 415gr arrows and back-calc'd that it would have gotten 405 fps with 350gr. Nothing to sneeze at and I'd venture to say just as reliable as a M405 setup you've described.

I'm sure I'll miss that bow one day, but currently am really enjoying the overall package of the Suppressor Extreme. Even though I already had a limb fold on it.

I still have my preproduction field test 405 Matrix. Bill handed it to me and said try to break it. He meant to shoot is a lot and that I did. It is a super accurate bow that I put 1800 shots on targets. It’s far less rude to shoot than my 400 Suppressor or RevX. Half those shots were with 350 gr arrows. The limbs never failed me. But at a Boofest I let a couple of attendees shoot it. It came back with a big splinter. Of the returned 12 arrows, 3 were split at the rear end and 6 nocks were mushroomed. Boy was I unhappy! I also had a BD400 and regret selling it. I was better mannered bow without question.

The Vixen2 Matrix Hybrid is getting new type Matrix limbs today to replace the older type. Plan to chrono before and after. This is my current backup xBow and will be taken to S Texas Nilgai hunt in December so any additional horsepower will be appreciated. Shooting 18" GT Nitros at 510grs. The REV Y is using 16.5" Nitros at 490grs. The V2M has been very good and accurate partner the last 4 years.
Just finished picked up an honest extra 12 fps.
