Ok guys here is the review of the new Ten Point Vapor RS470 I got from Wyvern Creations. David is a great guy to deal with. I first shot the Vapor and all the new Ten Points at the ATA Show in Indy. I said it then and I’ll say it now, I believe Ten Point owned the show. I don’t think anything else came close for overall features. Completely redesigned stock, rail, trigger and cocking mechanism that can be used to cock and decock the crossbow safely! I’ll cover the review the best I can and keep you updated over time. I plan on doing some videos when my son returns home and we can set aside some time for it. I believe when you get to shoot the new Ten Points you will be impressed with the advancements and with how safe they are. As you read the review keep in mind chrono’s, gauges and scales vary. I’m only reporting what I found with what I had available to use.

I’m going to give you the specs because there is a slight difference in the RS470 than previous models. Basically ½” longer and ½” more narrow. Extremely compact!

Length: 31"
Width - Axle-to-Axle (uncocked/cocked): 12" / 6.5"
Power Stroke: 17"
Draw Weight: 225
Weight in lbs. (w/o accessories): 8 lbs.
Performance:
PRO Lite 370-grain: 470 FPS / 182 FP KE
PRO Elite 400-grain: 460 FPS / 188 FP KE
EVO-X CenterPunch 445-grain: 440 FPS /191 FP KE

Accuslide: I’m sure there were several people that had a hand in creating this design and whoever they are they deserve an extra chocolate bar in the Christmas stocking. It is an ingenious design and I firmly believe it to be the best crank system on the market today. Not only is it silent but completely safe! As for detailed function, a video will work much better and I will get to that as time permits. You can let go of the handle at any time in the cock/decock process and trigger box stays put. No busting your hand or breaking your crossbow! A quick note, after you cock the crossbow, back off around 3.5 turns so the trigger box will release when you press the button to reload. Decocking is a breeze. Just put your finger against the release button, crank back until it clicks to release then backwind. I don’t know how they did it but it’s smart!

Crank handle: The new crank handle can be extended for even easier use. I find it’s fairly easy even in the shorter position. It works like a ratchet. It has a button on the handle you press for loading and unloading into the crank. It locks into place and will not come off until you press the release. If you decock the crossbow and don’t want to leave the trigger box attached there is a rod in the crank handle that folds out. Push that rod through the hold in the stock/riser that corresponds to the trigger box and it will unlatch. Then you flip the ADF up and free the trigger box.

S1 Trigger: Again, another huge improvement from Ten Point. The T series triggers aren’t bad but after you shoot the S1 you aren’t going back. If you aren’t used to a two stage trigger it might take a few shots to adjust but once you do I believe you will like it. I am estimating maybe 1lb for the take up. It is just enough so the trigger doesn’t flop loosely. Then it breaks at 3.75lb. It’s fully broken in now and I can’t detect travel in the trigger once it hits the wall. It’s a clean break from there. I let someone else shoot the crossbow and they said the same thing, clean break. I don’t think Ten Point will need to make any improvements here. Once you test the trigger for yourself you will see the drastic improvement over the previous triggers.

Stock: An all new stock design. The stock grip is thinner with finger grooves. I believe the foregrip gives you more options to vary your grip front to back over previous models while still maintaining a high level of safety. The new cheek piece/comb is very comfortable as well. It molds to your cheek. The angle of the cheek weld reminds me of some of the custom AR stocks I’ve had. Tip to tip in my opinion this is the most versatile and comfortable stock Ten Point has produced.

New micro rail: The rail has been redesigned in several ways. It is a hollow rail with lots of cutouts to reduce weight. The string doesn’t ride the rail like previous models. It barely touches the outside edge of the rail. There will be much less wear with this design! You can also now shoot any vane you want. I have a picture of the string after about 100 shots and there is no wear. Even with the hollow rail the Vapor is fairly quiet for this type of speed. I have certainly shot louder crossbows.

Speed: It hits like a ton of bricks! As the name implies the RS470 is rated at 470fps with a 370gr arrow. I don’t suggest you use that weight arrow. I believe the Evo arrows that come with this package are the right choice. With the polymer Alpha nocks they weigh 450gr. The cables had stretched just a tick so I tuned it and shot through the chrono. I got 435fps. It’s a screamer!

Accuracy: I wouldn’t shoot groups! The shots attached are at 40yd. It was raining that evening and getting dark so I didn’t fine tune the speed dial but as you can see the arrows would have all been in a very tight group. I had to turn one of the arrows to get it to come back in but the Alpha nocks make that job easy. Just remember if you need to do that, mark your new cock vane. All the Nitro’s have been accurate for me but I believe the Vapor is easier to shoot. I credit that to the new rail and S1 trigger design.

Weight: The first thing I noticed when picking up the RS470 is it’s lighter than its predecessors. It’s over a pound lighter. You can’t go by the listed weight in comparison to the previous models. Previous models were weighed without the crank and the RS470 is with the crank as it is now built in. I weighed it with the scope attached and it came up 9.79lb. Last year I weighed the XRT at 10.87 with the same set up. I don’t believe the carrying weight of this crossbow will be an issue for the vast majority of hunters. I find it comfortable to haul around.

Accessories/kit: When the Vapor comes in you will just need to mount the scope, foot stirrup, level and quiver (I don’t mount the quiver). Most of the accessories are the same as last year and I don’t see a need to upgrade anything. I find the Stag case adequate and functional. The Evo scope performs extremely well in low light and has great illumination. As mentioned I did have to turn an arrow or two but the Evo arrows deliver great accuracy. The new 6 arrow quiver is an improvement over the standard 3 arrow quiver, however; it is more suited for the Center Punch/two blade heads. You could use a 3 blade mechanical but you would have to be careful how you load them.

Conclusion: It is the finest crossbow I’ve shot to date. I’ve probably said that in the past but then they keep getting better ☺ Lighter weight, great trigger, safe and silent cocking/decocking. It carries a higher price tag than it’s predecessor but it also carries a lot more upgrades. No one crossbow is for everyone and that’s why Ten Point carries a wide variety of crossbows at different price points. I can only give you my opinion and that is if the Vapor is within your budget I would highly recommend it. It’s a pleasurable shooting experience and I think you are getting the top crossbow on the market today.

There’s a store in Jonesboro, AR with a LS390 that has a $899 or $999 price tag. It’s been there for a while. If SWATs didn’t exist, I’d make a bid.

Pin, your review is excellent! For many, maybe just some, $3,000 for a crossbow that may be kept 3, 5 or more years, isn’t as much as it may seem in the big picture of hunting costs.
Different people put priorities on different aspects of life. The difference in a new vehicle every 3-4 years verses a lightly used 1-2 year old vehicle, or an end of the model year vehicle and keeping 10 years could make savings that at $3,000 Crossbow seem very affordable.
Personally, I stay with my much less expensive crossbow , keep it for years as well as my vehicles. But don’t ask about what I spend on my airplane!
My thought: this is a premium crossbow, and it has its place.

Hey Pin
I have a question ... does the crank handle stay in place good where it’s stored. I had to add a small piece of the soft side Velcro in my XRT to keep it snug in the storage slot. It never moved after that. Just wondering if it’s held in snug.
No word yet from David when mine will be shipped.
Biting my nails for this crossbow to get here and get it ready for turkey season.
Thanks for your time on the review.

Yes it does! That was one of the things I wanted to point out in my review but it was already so long. I had to cut out some of it as it is now. I guarantee it's not coming out on its own! Not too snug but it snaps into place tightly so no worries there!

Confession time and an apology. My son isn't going to make it back in time for me to do the video's. Here's the confession....the Vapor isn't mine. I was given the rare opportunity to test this bow and do a review on it! Which I very much appreciate!! I plan on answering what questions I can on the Vapor of course. I tested it and I think if speed is your game then the Vapor is the best crossbow out there! I'm stating this because I don't want hunting season rolling around and you guys thinking there was something wrong with the bow because I won't have it then lol It just wasn't mine. I had an opportunity and of course I jumped on it. Who wouldn't :)

If I buy a bow it will be geared for 3d. I tried a Death Stalker but I struggle with that one. It's a great bow and it's not the bows fault. I have form issues and I think the DS being super light and light in the front end works against my form. I'm going to try a standard limb bow next for 3d. Hoping some weight on the front end will help with my form.

I may get grilled for saying this but that changes things for me. I am not doubting the honesty of your review. I just think its something that should have been stated prior to review. Thanks for your thorough review

Seems more than one is upset at the fact I was able to test shoot this crossbow and I didn't buy it. I'm not upset at anyone but I am stepping away from the forums at this point. People are judging me without even knowing me or what kind of person I am. I've been on these forums for many years and my goal has been to promote GOOD products and help people but I just don't have the heart for it any more. Take care guys and God bless you all.

Haters gonna hate Pin. That’s just the way it is.

But, it’s all good if you let it be. Don’t let anybody or anything steal your joy!

Mighty fine review BTW. Very well done. Lots of effort and thought put into it for sure.

Thanks guys. I know I'm bad to let things people say to me, whether by pm or on the forum, get to me. I will stick around because I think a lot of you guys but I don't want to do any more product reviews. Just rather cut that out at this point and just poke on the forums now and then to keep up with you guys.

This whole thing is just weird. I barely said anything about this and he just snapped .

I told you it was ok. I've had more comments made to me than what you said and I'm not going farther. Lets just let it go.

I let some things get to me that have been said and I need thicker skin. To anyone I have offended I apologize. To anyone that thinks I was misleading in my review that was not my intent at all. I was simply invited to test a bow out and I went for it. I learned my lesson from it.

At this point I will still hop on now and then but I had just rather "more qualified" people do product reviews and step away from that side of it. I stand by what I said about the Vapor. It is an excellent crossbow and Ten Point is a great company. I am not upset at anyone and I don't want anyone upset at me. I just don't have any more to say about all this and I'm going to stop responding. I hope those that read the review will enjoy it.

Great review, Pin. I learned my lesson doing crossbow reviews quite awhile back. No matter what you do or say, there will be the distractors, especially if you also spend time having fun with friends on forums. You’ll also be accused of being biased because you got free bows, whether they were free or not. The work that goes into doing a comprehensive anywaycrossbow review, consisting of multiple days of shooting, accuracy testing, looking for glitches and trying to be fair with comparisons, means that the accusation of being “free” is ridiculous anyway!!!!!

I hope you keep doing what you like and having fun here.

Truth be told and I’ll bet a lot of hunters here will agree. I don’t look in magazines or testimonials from their so called professionals doing reviews! I search for real life people like on these forums that actually own and use the products! Most companies will pick fanboys in hope of favorable reviews! There I said and I bet there are a lot of guys thinking the same thing. But after all that’s just my opinion.

Let me say this and it's the last I'll say. I didn't get anything to do this review. Not money, not $1. Not a bow, not one arrow. In fact it cost me money in shipping. I think the Vapor is a great crossbow and Ten Point is a great company. I can't find the mods on here so the threads may stay open, I just won't reply any more. I hope people will read the review because I worked hard on it and a couple tried to destroy it. Like I said, it's not like I got anything to do this. It cost me money. I will stay on the forums but I will no longer do reviews. I learned my lesson this time around. God bless you all

Very disappointing to hear Pin. I've always enjoyed your written and video reviews. It's obvious you put a lot of time into them. It's too bad a hand full of negative people on here have to spoil a good thing...

Hi there. I don't think I'll get the chance to do that one but I think Ramrod did on his blog. I'll try to find it and post it here. In all likelihood the HHA might be my last review for the year because I don't have plans to purchase anything else. Subject to change of course ;) LOL If they send me one I'd review it but I don't see them doing that and I can't buy one
