I've just started hunting this year, so I apologize if this sounds stupid. Do you need a proper balance between the weight of the broadhead/bolt, or can you take a broadhead from say an aluminum bolt, and switch over to a carbon bolt without issue? If it does need balanced, how do you accomplish that?

Typically, you can switch a broadhead from aluminum to carbon shafts...what matters the most is that no matter the combination it meets the minimum grains (weight) required to safely shoot your xbow per manufacturer. You also should look up and read about FOC (front of center balance point) on arrows. More weight towards the front of an arrow tends to help broadhead tipped arrows fly better, but I am no expert compared to many on this forum. I use the same 125gr broadhead on 2219 aluminum eastons and 20" carbon arrows
They are interchangeable. As noted, just make sure your arrow meets the required weight of your manufacturer.
Old thread but I wanted to put this out there in case others may have the same question as to balancing a broad head.
There is a small tool called an ASD, which stands for Arrow Squaring Device. You lay the arrow in the ASD and twist the arrow so the end of the insert is against the cutter, which cuts small amounts of material away until the insert is square.
Also, some broad heads such as SlickTricks use steed washers that goes on after the blades are installed in the ferrules. Then you simply screw the broad head on the arrow. Some times you have to fiddle with those washers to get a broad head to balance out. And sometimes you may have to swap out a washer for another one. But it will almost always square up.

Minor weight changes should be no big deal. Probably just have to re-sight in your scope, as with any different arrows. Can check foc, it is nice to know were you stand on this.
