Broadhead recommendation

I just bought my first crossbow yesterday, a CAMX A4. I’m looking for broadhead recommendations. Someone suggested Dead Meat’s. I’ve previously used Slick Tricks on my vertical bow. I’m a fan of fixed but never expiremented with mechanicals. I want to start practicing with what I want to hunt with practice tip wise. I’m looking at whitetail/pronghorn. Here’s my questions:

- Any recommendations for a A4 that fly well?
- Could I reuse my slick tricks on my cross bow bolts?
- Any feedback on Dead Meats?

Yes you can use your Slick Tricks with you crossbow. Just give them a try and see how they fly and group. Every crossbow is different as to what it likes, and some different grades of crossbow arrows can be "finicky" as to what they shoot well with, due to various reasons, spine, fletching, etc.

Shoot the Slicks and see how they do.

Yea....what William said.;) Lots of folks here shoot slick tricks in all their variations.

As above, the guidance system (arrow quality, spine stiffness indexed, fletching, correct FOC, nock size) will determine how effective the broadhead is delivered. Slick Tricks are a great choice.

Slick Trick Mags 125 shoot very accurately out of my current crossbow. Also, Magnus Black Hornets do the same.

For mechs, Rage 125 grain Hypos are super accurate and leave large holes in deer. In fact, they are so accurate that after some testing I've yet to find one that has a different POI than my field points. My arrows are only traveling 340 fps so the standard Hypos with the black collars have proven to be an awesome combination.

If/when I ever go back to a faster crossbow (at least 370 fps) then I will be going back to the NAP 3" cut FOC mech broadhead.

I have used just about every Slick Trick made, Mags, Standards and Vipers, but of course there are "newer" Tricks now that I haven't tried. With that said, out of my set-up the best shooting broadhead to date has been the 125 gr Viper Trick.

I have also shot the Spitfire as well. Really good shooting as well..

If you wanna try a 125 gr Viper, shoot me a PM....

I have been shooting the nap spitfire crossbow 1.5in. I have shot 2 bucks with the spitfire and it preformed great both times. 1st buck fell in sight second one went 80yrds or so. First buck was shot with a crossbow shoot around 300fps. The second was 330fps. I would recommend the spitfire 100%.its a tried and true broadhead.

Wife has been using Spitfire broadheads for about 10 years out of a number of crossbows. She has never seen a negative in flight or on impact. I don't think any of her deer have made it to the 40 yard line before crashing.

I have taken 4 with Spitfire 100 grain. One with my old Hunter (pre Tenpoint) bow at around 300 fps max.

Last 3 with my Tenpoint Turbo XLTII. One of them was a DRT kill. It never took a single step. 36 yds. on a tall racked 6 point. Deer never even really kicked around or anything. Just dropped. Only time I have ever seen or heard of such a thing with a bow kill. Bolt broke off. Broadhead and about 2” of arrow were stuck in far side shoulder.

For my Sniper 370, I decided to try some Ramcat 100s. Crossbow version. Have a half dozen on the way. It was those or QAD Exodus. Both recommended by Jerry to go with the bolts he is whipping up for me. Slick Tricks were my other consideration.

Anyway, so those are the 4 BHs that interest me most.

I have used Grim Reaper Schwacker and Nap Double Cross at over 400fps.and they were all accurate and killed well. A lot of guys shoot slick trick. I would call Jerry at Tapp-Nation and get some Taps. They are the key to good flying broadhead. As stated you need good arrows and taps are the best

I have been bow hunting since the mid 70's with one sort of bow or another. For the most part guys seem to overthink the broadhead. Any quality BH will work on deer sized game and for the most part most can transition from compound to crossbow and long as the BH weight works out for your spine arrow. I love Rocket Steelheads and will continue to shoot them with my Xbow. The only change I made is to add a second retainer band to prevent the blade from opening with my Scorpyd Speeds. Slick Tricks are very good and will work great.
