Well I did it. I just purchased my first Crossbow... I'm quite excited. I looked at so many Xbows over the last two weeks. Can't wait to get it dialed in for upcoming deer season. I'd be lying if the special camo pattern didn't motivate me to this PSE Fang XT model.

I've seen enough youtube videos reviews and feel confident this model and other similar PSE Fang crossbows that it will be enjoyed recreationally both at the target range as well as in a tree stand. 350 FPS is more then enough oomph for me to execute 20-50 yards shots.

It comes with upgraded illuminated scope and and scope case. Only thing I'll need will be a sling and I do plan to purchase Carbon Express Maxima Red bolts.

Thanks! I am so new to this. I plan to purchase Rage Hyperdermic broad heads. Are they all the same or do I have to purchase crossbow specific broadhead?

Welcome to CBN! Sounds like you have a good plan. I would suggest a good quality target for the new crossbow. When I first shot my crossbow in my target that was made for my compound bow the crossbow bolt went slam through it. I bought a "block" crossbow specific target and problem solved. Any quality brand will work. Also, keep your fingers out of the way of the string!!! The PSE will serve you well & the skull camo is awesome.

I'm no spring chicken but feeling the fountain of of youth when I get my xbow next week. Thanks for your inspiring words and will take your target advice seriously.

Congrats. From guys who use them, you want the Rage Hypos with the red crossbow collar. I'd also suggest you look into Black Eagle Executioner arrows. They are very good, accurate arrows, and you might actually save some money compared to the CX.

Okay, I'm a newbie. I'm on Amazon viewing Black Eagle Executioner 20" bolts. There are lots of options and need help choosing what to order. Interesting they come with brass inserts. I guess that is a bonus? If so what is the advantage?

Ordering options
1. 20" /.003
2. 20" /.001

What are the differences in performances? Is it minor that it really doesn't matter that much?

Thanks in advanced for all the helpful suggestions. JoePa, your right great reviews and noticeable price savings carbon express maxima's.

Thanks, TomOnTheRun

Sorry for all the questions. This bow is rated at 350FPS. What is real world speed can I expect with this Xbow? I don't have chrono meter to measure.

The advantage of the brass inserts is that you can use 100 gr. points, and still have enough weight forward balance to shoot with good accuracy and get good penetration on game. You can get the Rage Hypo crossbow specific heads from several sources.

You can get the 20" black eagle executioner bolts cheaper off ebay. 60x custom strings is running a 15% off sale throughout mothers day, you can get BEE's there also. I use the 20" .003 BEE's with the brass inserts with a 100grain tip in my Barnett Raptor. Out to 30yards I cannot shoot at the same spot without hitting my my first bolt. For 40 yards & less the .003 bolts will shoot just fine and as for a hunting bolt, trust me they work just fine. As far as broadheads, I can't speak for Rage. However I can recommend Swacker 2-blade and NAP Spitfire broadheads. Both of them fly with same poi as my field tips and stay closed during flight. The both leave good bold trails and kill deer fast. The NAP will be sharper out of the pack than the Swacker. I might have to try the 150grain 3" cut Swacker this season. I will help answer any questions you have if I can and that's the good thing about this forum, someone can help answer your questions.

As soon as I get my PSE Fang 350XT in I'll post my full experience dialing it in. Only limitation will be chrono graph. I don't have access to one. To be continued!

This is a new chapter in my life after spending many years fishing bass tournaments out of a BassCat.

The PSE Fang is all I require. I am sure there are many equal to better bows out there. Both my son in-law and son are very experienced hunters taking multiple 10 point bucks with a vertical bow. They suggested the crossbow a perfect entry for me. They bot suggested to invest more in quality arrows for my deer hunting level. Agreeing, I'm not a experienced enough hunter to appreciate more expensive and better bows. As long as I can execute a shot in 30 yard range if the opportunity presents itself cool. I'm doing this to do things with my son and son-in-law when he comes to visit. Keeping up with son will be the real challenge. I'm in good shape and strong but he's 27 and I'm 60 and he'll be taking me up and down steep hills in Alabama. Yikes! LOL. Actually, I really look forward to the target practice. That really has my energy in this sport right now. Harvesting deer will be a bonus.

I took delivery tonight. Overall, very easy to assemble. Didn't take me 15 minutes total.

Initial observation. The Skullworks Camo2 pattern is impressive. At least to my eyes.

Initial observation the overall build quality looks impressive. Won't be able to shoot it till the weekend. The upgraded illuminated reticle seems to be similar to the post for the new Crosman Specialist XL 370. The display is blue and red. The clarity of the scope receives lots of light.

Now for the newbie question. How do you center up the cross hairs in the scope on the crossbow?

Congrats and I do like the antler/skull pattern as well! There are quite a few threads on setting up a scope and the first time adjustment. The Fang's scope is not speed adjustable so the PSE instructions are "it" in a nutshell.

1. Begin adjusting your scope by sighting your crossbow at the closest yardage from which you plan to hunt. Example 20 or 25 yards = top line of crosshairs.
2. Once you’ve established your closest range, progressively move back in yardage to determine the yardage points for the remaining lines in your crosshairs.
3. Because all of the sight lines move together, you will make adjustments based on your closest sight point by using the Windage (side) and Elevation (top) knobs.

Additional Points:
- Choose a point of aim low on the target for your first shot.
- Shoot from a bench or off a rest if possible.

Regarding the scope and the Specialist, CenterPoint doesn't offer a scope with red and blue illumination. My guess is the one in the review is from another brand bow. The scope on the Specialist I have is their base scope and it's not illuminated. They do offer a new illuminated scope as an option and it's a red/green.

Wear those new BEEs out!

Although, I don't know the best way to snap a pic with my iPhone at least you can see the blue illuminated reticles in the scope.

Yep, you're hooked!

Sounds like you are well on your way to a great, memory filled deer season.

You won't be able to put that thing down. First time you hear that "SWACK" on the target, it'll be like landing your first largemouth.

Before you know it, you'll be Robinhooding arrows until you realize how expensive that will get!

LOL!
