NEW WRINKLE? (NOCKS)

I was looking at new xbows at Bass Pro Saturday, the TP Stealth SS in particular. It had a sticker on the left side of the sight bridge "Omni-nock arrows required". So I'm thinking, really, why would this xbow "require" an Omni-nock? There must be something I don't see here, but all I can see at this point is $$$$$
So IF I bought that xbow, I would have to re-nock all my existing arrows to stay within warranty... hmmm.
That's not a great expense, but I just didn't like the feeling of having to buy 'proprietary' nocks to replace the flat nocks that were specified for my current xbow (TP) from the SAME manufacturer.

Give Andy a call at Tenpoint, 1-330-628-9245 ext 122 and ask him....He should be able to answer your question...

I shoot the Stealth XLT and I never had a problem with the flat nocks. I recently switched my Pro Elites over to the Omni nocks and I'm glad I did. The Omni nocks are a lot better nock. When you load your arrow and slide it back into the loading position, you will notice that your arrow fits real tight to the string and also keeps your fletching off the rail. I believe the main purpose of the Omni design was to help prevent dryfires. I don't think they are making a killing on selling them ..they're real cheap for a dozen nocks. I'm glad they came out with them.

I shoot aluminum flat nocks right now but I plan on trying the Omni's when I buy more Executioners.......I like the idea behind the Omni

TN,
The Omni nock is the best hook up we have found between the arrow and the string. As the bows have gotten more narrow, there is less surface contact between the arrow and the string. The channles in the back of the Omni nock allow the nock to grab the sting and hold it in place, or if the arrow is turned slightly, actually grab the string and guide it back into the grooves. The nock is made so there is no wrong way to load it, regardless of which vane you put down in the track. Requiring the Omni is not about the money, because the nocks are very inexpensive. It is about giving you the safest, most secure connection between your arrow and your string.

10PT - Thanks for the response. Yeah, I understand you're not going to make a fortune on an item that is probably $4/doz retail, and it's not going to break the bank for me to upgrade existing arrows.
I can see where it could be an advantage with the steep angle of the string on the narrow bows.
Do you see this becoming a requirement for all the CLS xbows, or maybe all Ten Point Xbows?

Thanks again, John

Its really not that big an issue to switch them out so don't let that hold you back if you want the bow. I used bohning blue hot melt glue when I set some up. You can use epoxy as well. You can blow a Vapor up buy using flat nocks (I saw a post where that happened because of using regular flat nocks). Sure not going to speak for Tenpoint policies but would assume going forward the omni nock will be the required nock for all narrow bows as well as come standard with all the bows. On my Titan that I will soon be getting I may shoot standard flat nocks as it has a wider ATA and string angle. I would not dare put the regular flat nocks in the more recent narrower designs. Like you I have several arrows already made up so I won't change them out for the Titan but would not let the nock change hold me back on purchasing a bow.

Yeah I'm getting that one too lol It just hasn't got here yet. Was supposed to come in to the shop yesterday or today but I didn't hear anything. Right now in my possession I only have the SZ380 and Ibex. Titan comes in Thursday and don't know on GT right now. The SZ might leave here before the season comes in. I will be making a trip to Bass Pro in the near future and I'll still look at some WR bows :)

Guess I'll be switching out nocks LOL

As tempting as an SZ might be I'd not trade what you have for it. I've had speed, faster speed than the SZ and just because it cost more or may be faster doesn't mean you are better off. The BT has a platform and trigger that most companies can't match but the CS and customer care that most companies try to avoid :) As the saying goes everything that glitters isn't gold.

I have a cable wear issue on my right cam that I have to send back to BT, a week there and a week back not counting how long it takes to fix it but it took 2 days before BT would call my local dealer back just to tell him what we need to do (send bow back). So if this were deer season I'd likely be out of a bow for at least 3 weeks

I really like Accuspine arrows and their accuracy when used in my TenPoint Carbon Elite. So I shoved about 5 Omni-nocks in a row into the arrows and noticed a tight fit at first, then it loosened up .OK I thought, then I looked closely at the arrow. Oh no!!! I cracked every arrow. walked to the trash and threw away about 60 bucks in arrows. Live and learn. I'd love use them in the Accuspines but without dressing down the diameter, there is no way. Still using flat or half moon knocks (noting proper line up with cock vane etc.). I'll probably take a bit more time and rework the Omni-nocks so they will properly fit, and then secure with a TINY drop of super glue. At that point, I'll have the best of both worlds.

I'm using the omni nocks with my Mission MXB-360 with no failures whatsoever. Of course Mission will not endorse anyone else's product and therefore keep telling me that only their aluminum half moon nock should be used, however, typically they aren't sold separately but on their short 22 arrows only. The need for the half moon nock is based on the extreme string angle as this Bow is 19.5 " axle to axle, well TP's are even more extreme and omni nocks work for them. IMO the omni nock fits where ever flat or half moon nocks are required so will work with all crossbows as does the new Steddy Eddy. Cactus

is there a reason why the Omni nocks are so sloppy going into the shaft? I picked up a vapor and the Omni nock is way to sloppy a fit, maybe if you use a ton of glue but then getting a damaged nock out would be tricky, I opted to use the capture nock till I find some that fit better

I got up this morning, poured me a cup of coffee, started reading this and choked....... spewed coffee all over the place!
I hope you were joking. Please , do not shoot that beautiful crossbow with a capture nock. If your Omni nocks do not fit snug, you're using the wrong shaft/ Omni nock. Send 10PtCrossbow ( Randy) a pm or contact Tenpoint.
If you were joking, you got me!

Is there a valid reason for not using capture nocks? I'm not that familiar with the Ten Point.

Tenpoint says to use the Omni nock. I'm no Tenpoint expert and do not know the specifics of how they build their crossbows, but follow their instructions and do not deviate from it. From what I have read, their new crossbows are not designed to shoot capture or moon nocks , but are designed for shooting the Omni nocks. I would hate to see someone blow up a new crossbow because of not following written instructions.
That's why I stated to contact Randy or Tenpoint.
