Like most when it comes to hunting I use to be very impressed when I was younger. But over the years as I learned to hunt and what worked for me and what did not I hunted with in my means and that was not much so buying things that cost a lot of cash was thought out and studied carefully. {Was this idem very necessary for me to kill deer} was my main concern or was the idem something that would help me get around like an ATV.
So I being old school and growing up suspicious of wild claims which as most of the Ole Farts know were deemed "Snake Oil salesman.
So take a look at this and let me know what you think.

Scent Lock...your thoughts
In a word........Voodoo!

If someone thinks that they will get closer to deer, or shoot bigger deer because of what they wear, then the false impression created by the advertisement worked.

Hunt the wind, and become a statue. Being still is worth more than any apparel, scent, broadhead, or anything else being hyped.

i think until the time comes when we can ask a deer, if they can still smell us, then we probably will never know. IMO, it may work some of the times, but not all of the time. i think hunters have to weigh the cost benefit for themselves. i personally haven't bought any clothing, but i do buy the sprays. i accidentally had a hunting blanket dried with a fabric sheet. oops. i sprayed it completely down with spray and i could tell it helped. now, for a deer, I never got to ask one yet.

Well, DaveHawk, ya got us going. Don't bother, as you already figured out you just wanted to see how many chains you can pull at one time. Ya might try dipping yourself in Eu D'Skunk, if that don't mask your scent nothing will. BTW after you try the Eu D'Skunk let us know how it works out for you.

I've seen them all on their TV shows pitching scent lok, dead down wind and all the other stuff.
AND, I've seen them all during a hunt say; "He just caught my wind."

The choice is yours but.... ifn you've killed deer in the past on a "regular" basis, what you have works. Why spend more money??

Doesn't work for me? Only thing I know what works is hanging your clothes in a smelly barn
Redclub
Problem is,Red, mine would probably clearout the barn!!

In my personal experience you cannot erase your scent signature. You can mask it by smelling like something else. You can redirect it by playing the wind or raising it but that is it. Maybe these things help and maybe they do not. Maybe they just make your scent signature a little smaller. The latter is fine if you are hunting with ranged weapons but not so much with archery ranges.

I don't buy into the canned, bottled, bagged, boxed goodies that other hunters do. I must admit I get curious from time to time and try new things. Nothing wrong with that at all as long as you understand the rules which govern hunting the animal you seek. To understand the rules is to understand the animal. That only comes from trial and error. A testing of limits based on your individual faith in a particular method or product just makes it interesting. I personally don't like my experimentation to be too invasive to my hunt. That is the difference between Bambi and Bambi's grandpa.

And and understanding that he animal doesn't read the claims in advertising, statistics, etc......

Just because it looks good on paper, doesn't necessarily equate to it's sucess in the field.

Think about it logically. For example, at the airport, a room full of luggage with it's unending assortment of perfume, soap, fabric softener, various clothing material, and food, not to mention the miriad of personal human odors, can't hide the drugs, explosives, or even money from a dog's nose.
So to think that you can fool an animal whose survival depends on it's nose, with something that you wash with, wear, or spray on, simply isn't logical. The only thing more rediculous, is to claim that it will to begin with.

I'm always a skeptic and need data or proof things work. All of the data I've ever seen (Even years ago) said no way can it work.
Btw. The text editor box seems to be working:p:lol::angry::unsure::eek:B)
Your right on the money on this one the science doesn't back up the whole carbon suit claim facts our facts it takes over 800degrees to reactivate the carbon in those suits the old clothes dryer just aint gonna do it.. and since these suits are not put in air tight packageing and they sit on the store shelf for who knows how long their dead before you even buy it.. if you did get one that happened to be working which I doubt you ever would but anyway you put it on and sweat on your way in to your stand and as soon as carbon gets wet it does not absorb odors so your done.. if you feel the need to wear carbon buy a 30.00 chemical suit from a military store they come vacuum wrapped air tight and are good for several days of use then they say to throw it out.. the stuff I think is gonna be huge is silver x garments it does eat up bacteria that causes human odor and is good for several days and a simple washing reactivates it and science backs up its claim but to say it will fool a white tails nose and forget the wind just hunt is just plain silly ..

Yup, in short, and I've said it before, save your money and buy another doe tag!
That'll help ya kill deer better than anything you're wearin'! (all dressed up and nowhere ta go!)

I've been hunting for over, 55 years. I don't fall for any of it. Keep yourself clean, wash clothes with baking soda. Then rub in pine needles, dirt, cow s###, or whatever smells are in your woods. Hunt the wind. Hunt slow. And most importend, Hunt with your senses. Save your money for a new crossbow.

I just remembered something. If you think you must wear scent loc clothing, just go to your local Army surplus store and buy yourself a chemical warfare suit. There the same thing, ''made with charcoal lining.'' And they only cost about, 10 or $15.00 a set.

what do you guys clean & lubricate your deer hunting firearms with???

the reason I ask is I used to manufacture an odorless lubricant back in the late 90's and it never really caught on because most people were spending too much money buying scent-lock, scent-blocker, XYZ - Body Odor Spray and Mouth Wash they thought an odorless lubricant was NUTZ!!! (LOL)

i still use my odorless lube on treestands, guns, knives, brush trimmers, saw blades, etc. and believe it is better than going into the woods smelling like Hoppe's. the weird thing is I luv the smell of Hoppe's but I bet deer know that smell all too well.

for what its worth....if Tiffany is wearing that scent-lock or scent blocker stuff it's gotta work! I don't know what's wrong with you guys?!?!

I've always been of the school that feels your odds of taking a deer are greatly improved the longer you stay in the woods. Deer lures, scent lock, etc. probably tend to help people stay in their deer stands a little longer as a result of their confidence in the claims of the product. The longer one stays in the woods the greater the opportunity to take a deer, hence the manufacture's unearned claim to cause and effect of their product. We only hear from those who "successfully" use the product, never from those whose faith waned as nothing showed up. As an example, I reluctantly bought one of those doe bleat cans based on the braggadocio ramblings of a local self-proclaimed "highly successful" deer hunter. This is the kind of call that you turn over and it lets out a sound. I've had that thing for 4-5 years and will use it throughout the deer season every now and again when things get slow. To date, nothing has responded to it yet I still drag it out and it does what I think is its main function: it keeps me in the deer woods a little longer. Know how deer move in your area, watch the wind, and leave the trinkets at home. But if I use that doe bleat can just one more time, it just might...

Kinda like fishing lures they catch more fishermen than they do fish, but as long as these guys can make a buck they'll tell you anything. My dad when he was living, bought a bottle of deer urine that had a warning label on it --Do Not Apply To Clothing--Bucks will attack,he had cotton balls all over the area he was watching, guess what no buck--most all this stuff is a gimmick.

I watched "When Animals Attack" and a guy did that very thing....put the doe urine on his camo clothing to get close to a buck to video tape the ordeal.....well the wife was video taping and a buck came and attacked the man and almost killed him! So never ever apply to clothing! LOL :D

Well
I must be a real sucker in a lot of peoples eyes

but i hunt with my scentlock during bow season almost exclusively.

i too was ultra skeptical till i went on a draw hunt at a arm ammunition depot.

during 2 and 1/2 day hunt 23 deer were taken and of the 23 hunters 21 were wearing on of the two
manufacturers clothing.

125 hunters were drawn for the hunt which 118 showed up..... pretty good odds

so i went out shortly thereafter (after season and got me a set. now i have always practiced
good scent control but not anal about it, i dont fill my truck with gas in my hunting boots, or even
walkin the parking lot with em on stay upwind if someones smoking and shower regularly with scent control soap.

well in the last five years of using the gear i have had ten times as much wildlife around my ladderstand

and have even had coyotes walk directly under me without knowing i was even there.

lat year while setting up my stand i had f deer within 15 ft of me for 2o minutes while i waited for em to leave
before i finished securing my stand.

now i dont believe this stuff deletes all scent but i do think it reduces it to levels not alarming to wildlife.
and i have harvested more in the last five years than in the previous 20.

miracle worker no but not snake oil either !!!!!!

but i hope every body think its bunk in my hunting area more deer fer me!!!!!!!

I too, wear my scent lock and or scent blocker clothig. I do the normal pre hunt things that most hunters do,
but while guiding out west for elk and deer especially elk I noticed a great more encounters of animals with hunters that wore some type of scent control clothes. Was it a coincidence or not I don't know, but my hunter sucess greatly improved. In the whitetail woods here at home I also wear scent controlled clothes. I have heard many stories about the clothing working and not working. All I know is, it has worked for me in the past and I will continue to use them as long as I can afford them.

Forty years ago I hunted in "The great Dismal Swamp" Ten to fifteen miles in and your smell, your talking, your breathing May have mattered. I now hunt in Cumberland County. I have been sitting in the woods talking to a friend and had deer walk past us and never look our way. Where I hunt ,they see, smell and hear you every day of the year and all that stuff don't matter. I ask a young man who hunts with us last year, If you believe that 200.00 set of drawers keeps the deer from smelling you, then why are you spending more money on the four dollar bar of soap. Just my two.
