Thanks Jake and everyone for putting up with my nagging.
If everything goes right I'll be in some prime hunting land (West-Central Illinois) in a couple days. I bought an AO tag. All I want is some time in the woods, and maybe some meat.
No nagging from what I could tell. Asking questions is how you gain knowledge!

Good luck on your hunt!

God Bless,

Jake

I got the DSC from Amazon that is made specifically for the Killer Instinct Lethal 405.

DSC stands for Dead Silent Crank, and it really is!

It has a hard rubber piece that screws onto the end of the butt stock. This gives you a little bit of added length to the length of pull...

There is a hole in the added piece that the DSC slips into, which makes for a very secure location in which to set it up for use, and it can NOT slip off!

Here are a couple of pictures of mine -

When using a rope cocker, my 5-shot groups averaged 2-4 inches at 40 yards...

When using the DSC, my 5-shot groups averaged 3/4" or less at 40 yards!

:unsure:I don't understand how that could affect accuracy.
For me, with one arm being stronger than the other, I had difficulty pulling the rope cocker evenly and as such, I was pulling one side off, and to varying degrees...

So by using the DSC, it allowed me to be able to pull the string back very evenly, thereby increasing the accuracy potential...

Even though I'm older, I've got good upper body strength. (I used to be a wrestler.) This is my first crossbow. I was afraid it might be too much for me to be able to cock, but it is not bad. In fact, it's a good workout. đź’Şđź’Ş
I think I'm going to like this crossbow business. Crossbows are fascinating gadgets. Lots of fun to shoot even if you don't hunt. This one is way quieter than I though it would be.

Ignorance is bliss as they say. We have 2 KI 405's and not only have we not had any problems from either I wasn't even aware problems were a thing. Love them and have killed 5 deer with them over the last 3 seasons including 2 nice 10 points.

Sounds like you are enjoying your K-I Lethal 405(s) as much as I do mine - good for you, and thank you for posting!

I have to admit that I "baby" my crossbow, and after surpassing the 1,800th. shot through it yesterday on a big doe, I still have yet to have a single problem with my Killer Instinct Lethal 405.

Nothing is to say that the limbs won't break tomorrow, or the string fails, or it just completely crashes in one way or another, but at least for now, it is still better than any crossbow I have owned, and I have owned more than just a few over the years...

Just an update since my last post here:

I have now exceeded 2,000 shots through my Killer Instinct Lethal 405, and I am still using the same string, with no issues to the limbs, cams or anything else on this crossbow...

I remove the string once every 6 months, wipe it down good, untwist it, and then give it a really good coat of Trident LP20 Silicone Grease throughout the strings...

While I have the string off, I thoroughly clean the cams after removing them, then give them a very light oiling before reinstalling them...

Once everything else is thoroughly cleaned, the string is twisted the same number of turns as what it was when I removed it, reinstalled, then the excess silicone grease that comes from around the strings is wiped away.

I'll then shoot my crossbow a couple of times to get everything settled in, then I'll shoot 5 times over the chronograph. Since velocity was less than what it was when it was new, I removed the string again, added 1/2 twist and reinstalled it, then shot over the chronograph again. Velocity was still a little on the slow side, so I removed the string, added another half twist to it, re-greased it, reinstalled it, then shot it over the chronograph again. This time, velocity was 390 fps., so I'm good to go for another 6 months...

When new, I started out with longer and heavier arrows with 125 broadhead's to keep more weight forward like what everyone was suggesting, and velocity was 385 fps. then, so that is what I try to keep this crossbow shooting at.

And still, for all the crossbows that I have owned over the years, this particular crossbow has been more fun to shoot, and has had far fewer issues than any other one that I have ever owned. And it is by far the least expensive crossbow I have ever owned! Go figure.

Jake

That particular butt plate came with the Dead Silent Crank, which I purchased off of Amazon. If Amazon is out of stock, you should be able to get one direct from Killer Instinct.

Since receiving my Killer Instinct Lethal 405 on June 12th. of last year (2022), as of today, the day of this posting, I have shot my crossbow exactly 1,662 times and it has performed flawlessly!

For hunting and target shooting, instead of using the 20" Hyperlite arrows, I am using 22" arrows with 125 gr. broad heads or field points for a combined weight of 450 grains...

At just over 1,500 shots, I decided to take 10 shots over the chronograph, and was 22 fps. slower than what I was in the beginning @ 382 fps., and figured the string must have stretched ever so slightly.

Since the string on this crossbow had only 1/2 turn from the day I received it, I took one end of the string loose from the crossbow, and turned it an additional 1 full turn.

I restrung the crossbow after applying and rubbing in some Trident Silicone from one end of the string to the other.

Afterwards, I shot another 10 rounds over the chronograph, and this time, my speed averaged 386 fps..

And now having exactly 1,662 shots through this crossbow, I have had absolute "0" issues with the limbs, and the string is still in excellent condition!

And the DSC, still worth it's weight in gold for cocking and de-cocking this crossbow.

I shoot this crossbow from 40 yards to 100 yards and it's accuracy is far better than any other crossbow I have owned, bar none!

Still, I have absolute zero complaints about this crossbow...

I must say a big THANK YOU to Rit here on the forum for all of his help and generosity, which allowed me to have a very successful hunting season last year! I am very much grateful for everything, so again, Thank you Rit!

And a Thank you to all of the guys that have answered my questions and helped point me in the right direction...

Thanks for the post, it has helped me make the decision to buy KI's new Logicx as my 2nd crossbow.

I bought my 405 2 years ago but couldn't use it last year. The frame had a warp in it and the arrows wouldn't sit on the rails consistently. Don't try to contact them during deer season.
Early this year, during the off-season, I contacted KI and they replaced my frame. I also replaced the scope with a Red Dot.
Now it does everything I would expect a crossbow to do. It is sighted in for Muzzy broadheads. That is all I shoot out of it. I shoot them into a mulch bucket. My max range will be 40 yards. It can surely shoot further but I figure 40 is enough for hunting.
I've got two tags and I live in the heart of Illinois deer country.

Come on Oct. 1st!
