Was given an 1980`s era Barnett 150 pound recurve crossbow.Wooden stock,no foot stirup for cocking, you use a goat foots lever(which I have)spare strings ($5.99 on the price tag!!)I`m sure it was called a Wildcat and the bow is a one piece bow.The markings on the sight mount says B&P BARNETT ENGLAND.It has been stored indoors, unstrung for a very long time.Only problem is the metal arrow retainer has broken off where it was rivited to the top of the trigger.I`d like to fix it or get it fixed for use.Any ideas on how I would get it repaired? Its in very good condition otherwise and is nice and small and lightweight..Anyone else out there with one?

Hi........

The "wooden" Barnettt was sold in the early 80's with 125lbs or 150lbs.

I got the 125 lbs version. It was a wallhanger for at least 20 years. Sometimes I use it for target-shooting in the garden......if I'm too lazy to take my "big" crossbow to the range.

Get some good arrows and you will have a lot of fun with it.

be safe

This has happened to a couple of my old Barnetts, and is a common problem.
The arrow retainer on the vintage models is very short, and doesn't give much if over stressed.

The only replacement these days would be to find another second hand trigger box.

However, it is an easy fix yourself.

Make up a new spring from the spring steel strapping that is used to hold bundles of bricks, steel bar etc together, and pop rivet or screw into place. This material cuts easy with shears, drills well, and can be bent into the desired shape, yet has plenty of spring in it to hold an arrow securely on the deck.

Good luck

thanks, thats a good idea.Do you know what arrows I should be using with it? I`m guessing the lightest 18 inch I can get. Also, what about performance? I mean its 150 pounds but the power stroke is very short at approx. 9 1/2 inches.I have no idea of the fps.The closest modern 150 pound recurve bow has a power stroke a few inches longer so I`m assuming the length of the power stroke for the same bow poundage changes something??
