what would cause this damage?

it looks like a piece of my cam chipped off. actually, it looks like someone took a grinder to it. im always careful about how i set my xbow down, and never set down on cement. i would have to rub the cam back and forth on concrete to cause this. ive only had it 2 months and i noticed it yesterday while waxing the strings. i dont know if its been there since i got it or not because its on the side of the cam and i never noticed it. the cams dont even touch the ground if i did set it on concrete, the ends of the limbs do.

im contacting bruin now to see if they will help. its not horrible. its rough on the top of the cam and smooth near the string and stops just before the groove where the string sits in the cam. im not gonna shoot it anymore until i hear from bruin. dont need a cam exploding in my face. ouch.

ive shot it 30 times or so just to test it out and never noticed it till yesterday when i went outside to do some long range shooting. . im clueless as to how it happened. its been shooting bullseyes in testing it out. worse than my face would be if the cam exploded in my 13 year old sons face. i inspect my bows pretty regularly. but i havent used this one much since i got it and should have been checking it since day one. hopefully bruin replaces the cam. fingers crossed. i like this bow and so does my son. lightweight{compared to my kronicle}, very quiet and easy to handle. the only thing i dont like is the rope groove under the stock.

I have had similar looking cam damage when the cam had scuffed up with contact against something. (I think you accidently hit something with the cam, don't smoke and shoot crossbows per your earlier post).
Your significant cam grove does not look damaged, which is good.
What I did was fill in the scuff area with 2 part JB weld, let dry, sand lightly and paint flat black.
You would not notice my repair 8 years later.

its more than scuffed up. i can feel the indentation in the cam. i would have to hit it pretty hard against something to do that much to a cam. and yes i smoke weed, but im actually very very safe. i work construction,30+ years,up and down ladders and climbing around roofs like a maniac. never been hurt. i taught my son how to shoot safely and one of his lessons was to never shoot with anything even remotely close to the bow limbs. arms spread out wide and nothing in the way of the bow limbs. ive seen a friend of mine shoot off a bipod on a table with a beer bottle on the table. needless to say he ended up a little bloody. it looks minor enough to still shoot safely but im gonna err on the side of safety. if bruin doesnt replace it i wont shoot it until i can get it to a press and get the cam replaced. its a cheap xbow. but i also have a squaretrade/allstate warranty from ebay.

I'd get it replaced. It looks like something definitely scrape it maybe on the ground a rock can cause it against the pavement anything really. I had a crossbow in the bathroom one time leaning against the wall it slid down hit the tub and bent the Mainframe wasn't that far of a fall. Being that underneath the black anodized is the shiny aluminum color they really show up when scraped. Cams and rail pretty much soft I've had both dent and scrape.

i got a better pic of it today. its dangerously close to the string but not completely through to the string track in the cam. im still not gonna shoot it though. i offered to ship the frontend to have the cam replaced, but bruin outdoors is sending me a whole new front end! i know bruin might not be as big as tenpoint or excalibur, but thats great customer service.

ill be the first to admit, when i 1st saw it, i said it looked like it was dropped, or heavily bumped into something. my 13 year old son and i are the only ones who shot it. and he firmly knows that if i go in the house for a minute, the xbows are not to be shot. he shoots the pellet gun or slingshot or redback pistol xbow if i step in the house for a minute. thats the only bow i allow him to shoot while he is alone. plus, i would hear it being shot with all my windows open. we shoot in my backyard off a table and all my xbows have a bipod so its impossible to set down the wrong way. and if i take the bipod off i use a pistol foregrip which rests the bow off the ground. the cams never touch the ground even resting on an angle. the cams seem tuned perfectly, no leaning. and the limbs are spotless. i know my son well. if he did it behind my back, he would have told me and face the consequences, which would be nothing more than me not letting him shoot it for 6 months or so. he respects me, but hes not afraid of me, as in, he knows hes not gonna get a whoopin in the toolshed lol. and if i did it, i would man-up and buy a bowpress and fix it myself, even though i have no idea how to remove a cam. but i'd learn. i used to have one of those ballista, supersonic etc xbows. the junxing drakon. after about 15 shots, both cams shattered sending pieces everywhere except thank god, my eyes. im sure thats not common on more heavy duty xbows, but it made me realize anything is possible i guess. i ordered struts for my car once and mounts. chinese. the struts busted right through the mounts. barely made it home. so as much as this looks like user error, dont ever forget that cheap chinese brittle material is nothing like made in the usa. even then, nothing is perfect.

Two Points...
#1. The erosion didn't reach the string channel so you could shoot that bow forever with no string damage.
#2. There is no problem because you've received above and beyond world class service from the seller!(y)

We have a Ten Point thread running and the 800lb gorilla, premier crossbow manufacturer in all of crossbowdom is charging bowmanmt for the repair to the spanking new from the factory broken bow.

i read that post. thats why im really grateful for the customer service. i even registered it the wrong way. i didnt see the serial# behind the limb dampeners and used the box barcode numbers to register it. but somehow it registered i guess? the barcode numbers arent the same as the serial #. but they still offered me a new front end. ill shoot it later with safety goggles on lol. thanks for the points.

Glad they are taking care of you. That certainly is excellent customer service!

As someone who was stupid enough to drop a compound bow (Hoyt Katera) on its cam  , that mark doesn’t look like a drop. I think there would be more flattering. Looks more like the cam hit something while being shot, or maybe being carried along a stone or block wall. As Duke said, the damage doesn’t reach the string track, so it would be safe to shoot. That is all irrelevant due to Bruin’s great CS. Hope you continue to enjoy your crossbow.(y)

when i noticed it, the first thing i did was ask my son if he used it while i stepped inside. i believe my son and trust him. to a point. hes 13. kids do stupid things. but he said, dad, i dont touch the big bows if youre in the house. so i believe him. if he did do it, maybe he will tell me when hes 30 lol and we will lol. i own up to my mistakes and my son sees that. so however it happened, ill probably never know. but i got great customer service from bruin outdoors. if im in the mood for an upgrade, ill definitely look at a bruin. i like this 350xl. its light, very accurate and quiet. for a $200 xbow, this is a great lightweight and easy to handle bow.

well, i got my new front end in today. in a box. along with an entire xbow package. wtf? i told bruin i would send the front end in to repair the cam, shipping at my cost. they said they would send me a new frontend. and sent me a whole new bow instead. granted, its only a $200 bow. but still. im guessing they dont have spare frontends in stock and figured it would just be easier to ship out a new bow in a box? too bad this wasnt an expensive ravin or mission and the same thing happened lol. but kudos to bruin outdoors and sportsmans outfitters. my 13 year old son lives with his mom but him and i spend alot of time together. i know hes gonna ask if he can have it lol. i got sent 2 diana chaser .22 pistols sent to me after ordering only one and they said keep it. he has the extra. but im not giving this to him until hes 14 in august. or maybe 15 next august. as well as i teach him about safety, i just hate knowing im not there when hes shooting it. i always wanna be right there to say HEY! POINT THAT UP or whatever, just incase he makes a mistake his mom wont catch as shes watching soap operas. kids do stupid things and so do adults sometimes. gonna go put this bow together now and do some ratting tonight with the free arrows. and the decocking bolt is a nice addon. i use it when i really wanna make an impact on a target. now i have two! how many bows come with a decocking bolt?

For some companies that import crossbows, the more they import and hope to sell
the cheaper they can purchase them and the cheaper they can sell them for. In this
case it is cheaper to replace the crossbow than to have money tied up in spare parts.

Happy to hear you received a replacement.
Just keep an eye on the limbs, watching for any slivering.
Take care.
