Hi Everyone,

I am getting close to buying my first crossbow. I have been leaning towards the Ten Point Turbo II XLT for the combination of weight, reputation, and performance. I stopped by a local dealer today and they had shown me another model to consider.

It was the Carbon Express Covert SLS http://www.carbonexp...bows/covert-sls

I had the chance to shoot both bows. They have almost identical dimensions and are both very narrow. The Ten Point is spec'd a little lighter, but I couldn't easily feel the weight difference.

Ten Point:
  • Fantastic reputation, never heard one bad thing about them
  • Turbo II meets all the stats that mean something to me
  • Made in USA/Strong support through this forum and on their site
  • Built in cocking device (Acudraw 50)
Carbon Express:
  • About $270 cheaper
  • Specs were almost identical to Turbo II
  • Top rail was solid aluminum like the Stealth (more expensive Ten Point model)
  • Carbon Express has a solid reputation with arrows
  • It seemed to be built well
  • Can't find any reviews
  • Website is lousy for crossbow support
  • Warranty is 5 years, but even that required searching
  • Includes decent carbon arrows and I do like adjustable forearm that also addresses finger safety
  • New to crossbows and I suspect it is made in China
What are your thoughts? Any personal experience?

Have heard nothing but good about Tenpoint. I bought a CE Covert 3.3 as a backup for my Parker. It is an earlier version of CE crossbows My CE is extremely accurate with no problems. It is a little heavy for my taste but I shoot it frequently and it seems to be built like a tank. Will not hesitate to take it hunting. Price was right and since it was for my backup I jumped on it.

If you have the money spend it especially if your like me and will keep this thing for a while. If though you are one to chase fads and buy new bows on a somewhat regular basis the Cx might be a fun bow to play with. I don't think either one would disappoint you. (I do like to support the USA though. If I was on the fence that would be the determining factor for me.)

To be totally honest, there are a lot of good crossbows today, that you would be absolutely happy with.
I like the looks of the Covert SLS, and the Covert x. Barnett makes a nice crossbow, and so does
Parker. I have a Parker Tornado, and my friend just bought a Parker Hornet extreme. They both shoot
exceptionally well. I paid about $250 more than my friend and actually like his bow as much as mine.
You will be happy with any number of bows from a variety of manufactures. You don't have to spend a
ton of money to be pleased with what you get. I personally like the Carbon Express xbows.

TenPoint XLT Turbo II
BEST Customer service period. When I bought my first crossbow I called them with questions about the xbow not only did they educate me but wanted me to send it back for safety inspection etc... I for one did not want to have any issues since I knew nothing about xbows at the time. When I got my bow back I was amazed at what TenPoint did for me. I will never buy another xbow other than TenPoint just for this factor. I went from a ProSlider to the Turbo II and this bow is out of this world. I am sure the other brands are great shooters as well but when it comes to the end of the day to me it matters when something goes wrong will the company stand behind their product and TenPoint proved it to me that they will.

best of luck with your choice and most of all have fun out there.

I love my Ten Point. Cant ask for better accuracy. Love the hand crank they have as well.

I did this Robin Hood at 50 yards with a 2 arrow group using my Ten Point:
