a simple yet informative tutorial on how to replace the string of a compound crossbow or bow that may be of interest:
I appreciate the point to precisely figure out the path of the string BEFORE removing it. I remember, many years ago, when I dismantled my first compound bow to clean and lubricate it... and I was not able to reassemble it! that suggestion is a good one in my opinion, and not only for archery stuff. If one is just planning on either adjusting the bowstring or replacing it and the cams have holes:
partially cock the crossbow and block each cam with a smooth round shaft screwdriver. Rope
cocking, a helper would come in handy to install the screwdrivers and to later remove them. This
applies to crossbows with the front mounted riser.

Changing cables, a press is required due tuning the crossbow afterward in regards to cam
timing and cam levelling.

Wishing you all the best.
Take care.
I used the "screwdrivers method" but it is dangerous for the cams and the limbs of the bow in my opinion. you have to add some soft material to the screwdrivers to prevent scraches and that can cause bad alignment and bend the cam... but in an emergency situation can be the only way to go.

I use my Synunm press
so simple
That seems a good portable bow press but is not cheap. You use it only for bow or also for 200+lbs corssbows?

ciao!
